Warm sounds of the Caribbean

When the cold winter air blasts, it only seems natural to crave a taste of the Caribbean. This flavour can be found weekly at Salah Wilson's steelpan classes.
As the only non-electric musical instrument invented in the 20th century, the steelpan drum has a "new, refreshing and exciting sound," Wilson said. Growing up with the popular steelpan band Exodus playing in his backyard, it was only natural for Wilson to experiment with the instrument. Now "it's my life" he says, and he's trying to share his passion with others by teaching extracurricular courses in local high schools and in his studio, Salah's Steelpan Academy, on Saturdays.
