Pan Trinbago will premiere its second major pan competition for 2005 tomorrow evening with the preliminary round of panyard judging for its Pan Down Memory Lane and Pan in the 21st Century competitions. Forty conventional orchestras and 33 Single Pan bands are registered to do battle in the TSTT-sponsored event.
The musical journey commences in Tobago with adjudication of three conventional bands (Katzenjammers, NLCB Buccooneers, Our Boys) and two Single Pan ensembles (Dem Boys, Metro Stars).
Trinidad bands in the North, East and South/Central regions will be judged between April 3-7 at their respective panyards. (See schedule)
Although bands in both categories will be judged simultaneously, there will be two finals. Single Pan Bands will have theirs at The Paddock, Queen's Park Savannah, on April 15, while Conventional orchestras' is carded for the following day, April 16, at Queen's Park Savannah, Port-of-Spain. Starting time for both events is 7 pm.
The Pan Down Memory Lane competition is open to all financial Single Pan bands whilst conventional steel orchestras will be judged in the Pan in the 21st Century competition.
Conventional orchestras must play selections chosen from the contemporary World Beat repertoire/styles and the arrangements should be innovative, creative and in a different manner than is normally done in the typically Panorama music format.
Single Pan ensembles must play a non-calypso tune in calypso tempo for the competition. Allotted playing time in both competitions must not be more than six minutes.
From the preliminary round, 12 aggregations from each category will be selected to go forward to the finals in order of merit based on points awarded during the preliminaries.
