overview of panorama 2006

panorama 2006 fell short of so much. generally there seemed to be a lack of enthusiasm from the steelpan fraternity itself-whether this is due to the Bradley's passing or the heightened crime rate or simply a lack of energy-i do not know. nevertheless, i must comment on two things. first, the staging of the small band and single pan finals in san fernando. while i was happy that some consideration was given to the south i really must confess that perhaps skinners park is not an ideal place for the staging of a show of such an anticipated calibre. it might have been better on a constructed stage on the grass field itself or even the coffee or cipero street. this though is not support for the keeping of the show in the north rather,it should encourage the minister of culture to hastily invest in the reconstruction of an entertainment centre in san fernando. there is so much energy, passion and talent there...why must the people from south always have to leave their homes and journey to the north to gain some exposure and appreciation? secondly, panorama 2006 was a poor tribute to the late clive bradely. i have yet to see any banners or posters commerating him at the semis or finals or to hear at intervals any announced appreciation of this great man. while bands were setting up on stage or leaving couldn't snippets of his life's work or biography have been shown? furthermore, i found it in poor taste that pantrinbago did not see it fit to distribute hand bands to the players or place toilets in accessible areas to the players once they left the stage. come on pantrinbago!!!
