Panyard concerts - gift to the nation
Posted By: News
Date: Friday, 16 December 2005, at 12:02 p.m.
Carols On Steel is the title chosen for HCL Valley Harps Panyard Christmas Concert. The Petit Valley-based steel orchestra, in keeping with the theme of the TSTT/Pan Trinbago Christmas panyard series, will be holding its concert at the panyard, Morne Coco Road, Petit Valley, on Sunday from 7.15 pm.
Listed to appear along with the host band, HCL Valley Harps, are Ice Water Ensemble and La Creole Pan Groove with Jesse Ryan on saxophone.
Also on Sunday, West Stars Steel Orchestra will be entertaining the Diego Martin community and environs at its panyard, The Cottages, River Estate. Guests include D’Original Parang Group & D’ Blast of Paramin, Riddem String Band and extempo favourite Black Sage among others. Activities start at 6 pm.
The two west bands join 55 other steelbands in spreading Christmas cheer across T&T. The season’s schedule started last weekend and continues until December 21 with West Side Symphony and Tobago Panthers in the sister isle. (See attached listing).
These concerts showcase the best of pan along with other elements of the culture in a Christmas setting in which the preferred music is traditional Christmas. Admission is free, however, patrons are asked to make a contribution towards “the victims of the panyard shooting fund.”
