Republic Pan Fiesta
Posted By: News
Date: Tuesday, 27 September 2005, at 3:56 a.m.
Bands in the east and north region rounds of Republic Pan Fiesta will be judged on October 9, in front of Pan Trinbago's Head Office, Park Street, (opposite Victoria Square), Port-of-Spain.
This was disclosed by Pan Trinbago in a release on Thursday.
Initially, bands were to be judged in their respective regions but due to the small number of entrants registered in the east region, the organisers were left with no choice but to combine the two playoffs.
Although there will be one parade route, the north and east bands will be judged separately to determine the regional champions.
The revised schedule is as follows:
October 2 — South/Central – Coffee Street, San Fernando – 4 pm
October 8 — Tobago – The Esplanade, Wilson Street, Tobago, 4 pm
October 9 — North/East – Victoria Park North, Park Street, Port-of-Spain, 3 pm
Winners in each region will receive $10,000 (single pan ensemble) and $20,000 (conventional orchestra). Additionally, each participating band will receive and appearance fee of $6,000 (single pan ensemble) and $12,000 (conventional orchestra).
Staged by Pan Trinbago, in collaboration with the Ministry of Community Development, Culture and Gender Affairs, the competition pays tribute to women in calypso.
The revamped event is free to the public.
