Couva is growing in size and stature with respect to the staging of Monday night mas and the large crowd which turned out to witness competition at the Couva Car Park loudly applauded the parade of bands on stage.

Out of the seven bands, which took part in the contest organized by the Couva Carnival Committee, New Dimension's "Biting Insect," led by Herman Clarke, of the Point Lisas Housing Settlement, came out on top with their true to life presentation.

The Maqueraders' costumes looked very authentic and and when the "Biting Insects" found their prey, the drama looked real.

The band came on stage in four sections — mosquitoes, Jack Spaniards, the spider, and the bachac, and the colours of their creations and the movement of the masmen made their display on stage an enjoyable experience for all.

Placing second was Masplayers Incorporated's "Bees Melody," led by Leroy Steele, of West Macaulay Park, Dow Village, California, who designed the band as a tribute to the late Lord Kitchener, who sang on the melody of bees in one of his best renditions ever.

Third place went to South Minors and Associates' presentation of "Bacongo Tribal Celebrations," led by D Carrington, who was also among winners in Carapichaima and Chaguanas.

Carnival King was M Andrews (Sweetness of Life) from "New Dimensions) while the title of Carnival Queen went to Mariana Steele (Queen Bee) from "Bees Melody."
