TUCO South/Central Zone is preparing for the grand opening of the 2003 Kaiso Showcase tomorrow at 8 pm at Palms Club, San Fernando.
Zone Chairman Ras Kommanda (Steve Pascall) said members of the cast have been putting in long hours of practice in preparation for the season and are ready to showcase their talents.
Ras Kommanda, who has already qualified for the Young Kings finals and is also making guest appearances at the newly opened Chutney/Calypso tent in San Fernando, is in the cast.
Other calypsonians chosen for the tent this year are El Drago, King Harry, Nikko, Lecturer, Nobby, Prospector, Kamara, Breed, Durango, Joseph Adams, CB, Danger, Walker, Lady Adanna, Nirmal Massive Gosine, D Rhythm and Stamone.
There will be guest appearances by Natural and Rainbow.
Short Pants (Llewellyn McIntosh) will make a special guest appearance on opening night.
Kaiso Showcase will be staging special shows at venues throughout South Trinidad.
These include Unique Hall, Santa Flora on Friday, Palms Club on Saturday and February 13, and 28.
The tent will be in Moruga on February 12, and at the Residence Pub, Siparia, on February 14.
Kaiso Showcase will be at Manoransingh Park, Cedros, on February 15 and at the South Chambers of Commerce Auditorium on February 19.
Ras Kommanda said veteran calypsonian Carey 'Kinte' Stephens will be honoured for his contribution to the development of the art form in South Trinidad.
"Stephens has spent 30 years as a calypsonian in the southland and the TUCO South/Central Zone will be dedicating this season to him," he said.
