For the preliminary round of the Pan in the 21st Century 2K6 Competition, bands were judged as in previous years, in their communities. We interviewed some of the key people within the bands about the competition, their history and other activities in the steelband arena. We spoke with Mr. Keston Bengochea, Captain of Sangre Grande Cordettes.

TRINBAGOPAN: Mr. Bengochea, what song is the band performing for the Pan in the 21st Century?

KESTON: The band will be performing "Don't Stop Till You Get Enough" by Michael Jackson.

TRINBAGOPAN: How long has this band been in existence?

KESTON: My father told me the band has been in existence over sixty years now. He was a member of the band.

TRINBAGOPAN: How has this year been for you all in terms of Panorama and things like that?

KESTON: This year was ok for us in the Panorama. Being Captain of the Band, I am trying to enter all competitions to keep the band functioning throughout the year. This is a big move for the band right now because the band couldn't get the players to come out after Panorama.

TRINBAGOPAN: Who did the arrangement for the band?

KESTON: Mr. Terrance B. J. Marcelle did the arrangement.

TRINBAGOPAN: How has the community reception been to the pan side, given it is right in the middle of a residential area?

KESTON: Nobody has a problem with it. This is a normal thing.

TRINBAGOPAN: Is there anything else you would like to share with us?

KESTON: I am really proud of the band. For years I haven't seen the players in the pan yard around this time.

TRINBAGOPAN: Thank you.
