For the preliminary round of the Pan Down Memory Lane 2K6 Competition, bands were judged, as in previous years, in their communities. We interviewed some of the key people within the bands about the competition, their history and other activities in the steelband arena. We spoke with Ms. Daisy James Mc Lean, Manager of Harlem Syncopators.
TRINBAGOPAN: What is the band's tune of choice?
DAISY: Our tune of choice is "Hey Jude" by the Beatles.
TRINBAGOPAN: How long has this band been in existence?
DAISY: We have been in existence for seven years now.
TRINBAGOPAN: What has been the highlight of your pan side?
DAISY: We have always been in the finals.
TRINBAGOPAN: Is there anything in particular you would like to share with us?
DAISY: I have this band to especially keep the youths off the streets. Let them be musically occupied, instead of being occupied with other things. So far it is working.
TRINBAGOPAN: Do you have any advice for the youths?
DAISY: All the youths should get involved. This is our thing…our culture.
